Rebecca is a second-year PhD student in Health Research Methodology at McMaster University. Rebecca earned a BSc in Honours Health Studies at the University of Waterloo with an Aging Studies Option and Medical Physiology Minor. Rebecca conducts health services research to examine family physician practice pertaining to the care of older adults. Rebecca’s doctoral research will establish the first validated cohort of family physicians certified in Care of the Elderly (FM-COE) within population-level, administrative health records at ICES. She will examine multiple aspects of FM-COE practice, including access to care and health services outcomes of older patients. She is also involved in work to describe the practice of nursing home physicians in Ontario, understand medical visitation in nursing homes, evaluate self-assessment tools for community-dwelling older adults, compare the scopes of practice among geriatric-focused physicians, and examine applicant trends to geriatric-focused post-graduate medical training.
